Welsh hearts broken by Germans in penalty shootout
After 120 gruelling and at times barking minutes the 2024 European Championship final between Wales and Germany went to a penalty shoot out with Wales suffering the heartbreak of defeat as the Germans won yet another tournament on penalties.
Herman the German manager said in a press conference after the game: "I told you, ve vill vin and you vill be second..." The penalty shootout was not without controversy with the German goalkeeper Herr Büngle being warned several times by the referee for coming off his line and saw the ref brandishing a yellow card for eating the ball. This didn't seem to put off the German keeper who went on to make the crucial save that won the Germans the cup.
Speaking after the game Herr Büngle was reluctant to discuss the game in general and the penalty shootout in particular and would only say: ”Yeah, am good boy…gib treats.”
Gary Football said: “Well, it’s a game of two halves…and then thirty minutes extra time…and then penalties…to be fair.”
